A middle aged single male living in London. I occasionally answer to the name of Ray.
Interests
I have an abiding love of wildlife, in particular birds. Indeed some (ok many) would say I’m a bit of a nerd when it comes to nature. I’m a member of the RSPB and WWT as well as doing some volunteering for the BTO and have recently completed a course with the Open University called Neighbourhood Nature (S159).
After watching the wildlife I like to try to photograph it. I’m not great at the photography lark but I do enjoy it.
Faith
I have been a Christian since January 2008 and am a member of St Mark’s Battersea Rise where I volunteer on the tech team. My admittedly young belief system tends towards the liberal which is fun considering the church I attend - but then “In my Father’s house are many rooms” [Jn 14:2].
Work
I work for Stepping Stones Trust which is a charity helping exoffenders with accommodation and adjusting back into society. I look after the infrastructure which at the moment consists of two hostels, a number of semi-independent move-on flats and a small HQ office. Excitingly we are starting a new project as I write which should see us able to help many more people in the coming years (and generate a lot more work for me too).
Why This Blog
Why not? I’ve started it more out of curiosity than any burning desire to impart something to the world. As such it may well (read almost certainly) meander all over the place but I hope that occasionally someone might find something of interest or amusing here. If some form of structure appears after a while I’ll probably see if I can give it some organization.
If you’ve got this far, well done and thank you.
Oh PS
I am proudly owned by a six month old (as of February 2011) kitten called Hypatia. She is a bit of a moggy but there is plenty of British Short-hair in there. Being a 'torti' she likes to keep me on my toes. I’m sure I will receive instruction to report on her from time to time.
